Write It Down: The Swap That Worked Deserves a Home

It's Wednesday in our Eat Well & Be Well group, and this morning's question is a follow-up to one of our best conversations from last week. Last week we asked what ONE ingredient your household struggles with most — the answers were gold. Today we asked the quieter question that decides whether those answers still help you next month:

When you find a swap that works for it, where do you write it down so you don't lose it? Notebook, phone note, memory — brave!

Memory is where most good swaps go to disappear. Not because the swap didn't matter, but because the details that made it work were never written anywhere: the exact amount, the exact recipe, and what your table actually thought of it. Today's Swap of the Week is the perfect example of why those details matter.

Today's swap only works if you keep the numbers

This week's swap is aquafaba — the liquid from a can of chickpeas. Drain the can over a bowl next time instead of the sink, and that liquid stands in for eggs: 3 tablespoons aquafaba = 1 whole egg 2 tablespoons aquafaba = 1 egg white

It even whips up for baking projects. Two numbers, and a whole category of recipes opens back up. But hear the catch: "some chickpea liquid" is not a swap you can repeat. Three tablespoons is. If tonight's bake works and the card in your kitchen just says "aquafaba — good!!", next month you will be guessing at the very ratio that made it work. Write the numbers down with the win, or the win doesn't travel.

One more detail worth writing beside it, from our earlier baking card: aquafaba comes from chickpeas. If chickpeas are an ingredient your household watches, that belongs on the same line — choose a different swap, and write down which one you chose instead.

Write the ingredient, not just the dish

Our dictionary taught us a second reason to be exact. Its Eggs entry lists egg, egg white, and egg yolk among the egg items — and lists eggplant among the exclusions. Eggplant contains the word "egg" and is not an egg at all; it is the classic false positive. A log that says only "egg problem — fixed" tells the next cook almost nothing. A log that says which ingredient you were watching, what you used instead, and in what amount turns one good night into a recipe your household can trust again.

That is the whole habit, and it takes about a minute: 1. The recipe, and the date you made it. 2. The ingredient you were swapping out. 3. What you used, and exactly how much. 4. What happened — texture, taste, and whether your table would eat it again.

Tonight, a second door closes — on purpose

This evening in the group, the spotlight is on the second of our two guided programs — the 9-week one. It's real food, in three phases: no calorie counting, no diet pills or shakes, no starving, and no required exercise. Support comes from a set of liquid drops (things like B12, D3+K2, and an electrolyte mineral blend) plus an app that walks you day by day, with recipes and food lists built in — and us guiding you through it. Tonight is also the last night of Founding Cohort applications, if either program has been on your heart. No promises attached to that — just the deadline, plainly stated, and questions welcome in the group tonight.

Whether you join a program or never do, the swap log habit is yours either way. Programs end. A page that holds what worked at your table keeps working.
